Background:
Vernham Deam Gillum's CE Primary was founded by the Rev. Gillum in 1860 in a 'beautiful' rural district. The school follows the work directed by the diocese in conjunction with the government's prescription that religion should taught in an informative way which includes learning about the Church of England, Catholic, Muslim and Jewish faiths. As part of a network called the Patchwork Cluster, Vernham Dean pools resources, expertise and facilties with a group of local schools to 'provide a wider and richer education'. Education Extra awarded a distinction to the school in 1998 for its extra-curricular activities which include football, rugby, netball, cricket, athletics, cross country, rounders, technology, dance, drama, music and Green Fingers clubs. In the summer term, children may take cycling proficiency lessons and older children can learn First Aid. French is introduced to the curriculum from Year 3.
