Background:

The school occupies an unusual site in the grounds of Lord Wandsworth College. Some of the building dates from the 1920s while recent extensions from 1995 include a spacious hall and an early years classroom. Further extensions are planned. The school catchment area consists of small rural communities and the site is surrounded by farmland and 'extensive' playing fields which offer 'excellent' facilities for sport and environmental study. The school is over-subscribed, experiencing on average 15 children applying for every place. Over the past four years the school's academic results have placed it consistently near or at the top of the league in Hampshire. In sport, school teams compete in events with similar rural schools in football, netball, rounders and athletics. The orchestra performs at events such as local festivals and on stage at Basingstoke's Haymarket Theatre and members of the orchestra perform to groups of the more elderly residents of local villages at Christmas. The children also support the village fetes through music, dancing and other displays and have been involved in workshops with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Opera, Northern Ballet Theatre and the Young Shakespeare Company. Through collections at Harvest and Christmas the school supports various charities both locally and further afield, as well as supporting a Kenyan family.
