Background:

Situated in pleasant residential area in southern outskirts of town; impressive accommodation and facilities. In 1994, enhancements included two music and drama rooms, small teaching areas, drama workshop, integral internal quadrangle, refurbished school hall and main pedestrian access route. Remodelling of main building in 1988; new mathematics teaching areas and information technology room, both of which link with the new science and technology block. Further building phase in 1990; complete rebuilding and refurbishing of teaching block provided new sites and bases for art, food technology, English, Latin, modern languages, religious studies and classics. Library and administrative building houses well-equipped independent learning and resource area, together with school offices. Fourth phase, completed in November 1992, involved new buildings as well as remodelling to form a complete science and technology block. Most recent development includes new music room, dance studio, science laboratory, and a new building housing 12 classrooms. Wide range of extra-curricular activities at lunchtime and after school; rugby, hockey, football, cricket, basketball, tennis, netball, lacrosse, softball and rounders. Specialist business and enterprise college status. Over-subscribed, with 1.2 applications per place. DfES achievement award.
