Background:
Founded in 1849, the school has celebrated '150 years of unbroken service to the community of Highfield'. Situated on two sites, half a mile apart, the infant department is accommodated in the Victorian building that served as the first school room. Additions and modifications over the years have provided 'good accommodation'. The junior department is in Hawthorn Road, in a 30-year-old building. Strong link with local church and Diocese, although the school sees itself as 'serving the diversity of community in which it is placed'. Extra-curricular activities range from sports to music and French. The school has also always raised money for charities of all sorts; it does not have a permanent link with any single one. Active school association supports the school through social, educational and fund-raising activities. After-school care, until 6pm. Basic Skills Quality Mark (2004); Investor in People status (2006). Ethos: 'A friendly, caring and inclusive ethos, based on Christian principles, which provides a stimulating environment in which children can develop and learn.
