Background:

Opened in 1979 on the largest community campus in Hampshire, Frogmore occupies 'well-designed low-level buildings' on a 50-acre rural site. It attracts pupils from Hampshire, Surrey and Berkshire and offers separate sixth-form accommodation. There is new, purpose-built library, resource centre, recently-refurbished drama studio, four squash courts, music suite, four information technology suites and specialist art provision. There has also been a #1.8m improvement to sporting facilities, including a floodlit all-weather pitch. It offers a purpose-built recording studio and 'extensive' new technology facilities. In addition to playing fields, the school has four football pitches, a rugby pitch and running track. It is over-subscribed, with 1.4 applications per place. The headteacher's children attended the school, which was recognised by the 1991 inspectors' report for 'excellence in the physical and creative arts' as well as 'outstanding pastoral care', and was identified for praise in annual Ofsted report. It offers 10 GCSEs at end of Year 11 and 99% of year 11 students got at least one pass in 1997. An 'extensive' extra-curricular programme includes a 'large number' of school journeys and foreign exchanges. The school has attained the Investors in People Award and Charter Mark, and was praised in 1997 as 'the most improved secondary school in the south of England'.
