Background:

Situated on the south side of Basingstoke in one of the town's older areas, the school is surrounded by new housing and a ring road. Opened in 1967, the school became a comprehensive in 1970 and is now an expanding 10-form entry school. It attracts pupils from a section of Basingstoke and from the large residential village of Oakley. Good facilities include playing fields, an assembly hall, a drama studio, sports hall, gymnasium, swimming pool, and laboratories and workshops. There are also four information technology rooms and a new music studio is currently being built. It claims to be committed to catering for children of all abilities in each lesson and class and aims for achievement in all areas. Every child has its own personal tutor and personal counselling is a feature of school life. The school is warm, welcoming, caring and demanding. The school aims to promote a climate in which achievements are valued and celebrated.
