Background:

Durley Primary School was founded in 1872 and is housed in a Victorian building with a modern extension. Half of the pupils come from the village of Durley and others from the surrounding area. The school is set in a rural location with a large playing field, two playgrounds and a small adventure playground. It prides itself on the teaching of English, maths, PE and PSE. A variety of extra-curricular activities are provided including choir, drama, football, netball, tag rugby, basketball, and in summer 'kwik cricket' and short tennis. Sporting successes include winning the Eastleigh and District netball shield in 1999 and the Eastleigh and District football tournament in 1998. This is seen as a 'remarkable achievement' for a school of 100 pupils. The school has strong links with the community and each year Parent-Teacher Association events are well attended. Pupils have raised money for charities including the Magpie Scanner Appeal, Animal Rescue Shelter and the British Heart Foundation.
