Background:

The school opened on its present site in 1965 and became fully comprehensive in 1972. Originally developed for pupils aged 11-18, it was reorganised as an 11-16 school in 1987. It is contained on a single site with large well-equipped buildings offering 11 science laboratories, five technology workshops, computer suites, catering facilities, a library and resource centre, a drama centre and three specialist music studios. As a community school, the campus enjoys excellent facilities for sport, including a sports' hall, two large gymnasia, a fitness room, indoor swimming pool and extensive outdoor facilities. 'Brune Park is rapidly developing a reputation as a school which puts learning first, and has become increasingly popular and well-regarded in the local community.' Pupils have the opportunity to study nine GCSE subjects in Years 10 and 11, and the school is beginning to explore more vocational opportunities. A thriving adult and community education programme operates during the school day as well as evenings and weekends. 'The school is a well-ordered community which provides a secure, structured environment for learning. Its central aim is to promote excellence for all pupils, encouraging them to become confident, competent, self-reliant and happy members of society, fully prepared for adult life and the world of work.'
