Background:

Velmead Junior School was opened in 1973; the school is an extensive site set in attractive natural surroundings, backing onto land owned by the Ministry of Defence. It is adjacent to Fleet Infant School with which it has an excellent working relationship. Learning in the school is divided into three sections, accessed via the central and administrative areas of the school. The central area includes the hall, library, music studio and offices. The modules - Chesnut, Pines and Oaks - each contain four classrooms and a central, open, shared resource area. Staff works together to ensure a successful and happy school. The parent-teacher association is active and supportive, not only raising money for the school but also staging events that draw the school community together. Children have the opportunity to receive weekly group tuition in a variety of instruments, and there are good sports facilities for games, gymnastics, dance, athletics, outdoor and adventurous activities, and swimming. The school aims to foster a caring community in which each individual is valued.
