Background:

Highbury Primary is a mixed community school that serves the mainly residential area of Cosham in the north of Portsmouth. The school provides a stimulating environment, which reflects the values of the school. In information and communication technology (ICT) its aim to develop children's understanding and independent use of a wide range of technological equipment ranging from a calculator to a computer. Music provides a wonderful medium through which children are able to express themselves. There will also be opportunities for children to learn the recorder, or join one of the school choirs, which perform at concerts both in and out of school. At Highbury pupils enjoy a wide range of activities including games, dance, gymnastics, athletics, outdoor pursuits and swimming. Children are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular sporting activities through lunchtime and after school clubs, which support and enhance the school's PE curriculum. The school aims to create an atmosphere of success in which pupils develop their skills as independent learners and achieve excellence.
